Memory-context effects of screen color in multiple-choice and fill-in tests
Written by: Drs. Gustavo Prestera, Roy Clariana, and Andrew Peck
Screen Captures - All treatment materials for this study were computer-based. The screen captures can give you a sense of what the study participant experienced. Note that the file is 1.4 MBs in size.
Course Download - To download the computer-based treatments, click the Color1p.zip
link, however, please note that the Zip file is 6MB, so it may take some time.
Once you've downloaded and extracted the folder, open "GetMotivated1pilot.exe" to start the course.
You'll immediately be prompted to select from 6 shapes. This sets your treatment
condition (see below)
Treatment Conditions - There were four treatment groups used in this experiment:
(2 - pentagon) Multiple-choice practice and posttest with color-coding
(3 - triangle) Multiple-choice practice and posttest with mismatched color-coding
(5 - square) Fill-in-the-blank practice and posttest with color-coding
(6 - diamon) Fill-in-the-blank practice and posttest with mismatching color-coding
Two other conditions are available in the course but were not used in the experiment:
(1 - star) Multiple-choice practice and posttest with no border colors at all
(4 - circle) Fill-in-the-blank practice and posttest with no border colors at
all
Logging In - When you arrive at the questionnaire, you'll also be asked for a 4-digit ID.
The first digit reflects the treatment condition (see above) and the remaining
digits identify the subject, so simply
enter the number that corresponds with your desired treatment and then any three
digits (001 to 999).
Scripts - Prior to production in Authorware, the course was scripted in Microsoft Word. You can download the content script as well as the script for the introduction and transitions used in the course.
Test Questions - You may also download the practice and test questions used:
